The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy releases the 19th edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2021. Harvard University from the USA stands tall in the ARWU Ranking 2021. It is followed by Stanford University and the University of Cambridge. A total of 14 Indian universities were featured in the Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) secured the top rank in the country. It is followed by the University of Calcutta and Banaras Hindu University. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was prepared based on the same six objective indicators used to rank world universities. The indicators are listed below.
The indicators as per the official website, “the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index – Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university.”
