For Returning India, IIT Bombay Afghan Students Seek Help For Visa
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has permitted Afghan students to return to the Mumbai campus and complete their studies in India, after their appeals, in view of the current instability in Afghanistan caused by the Taliban.
Several students have written to the institute, pleading with the officials to allow them to return to the Mumbai campus. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all students were asked to return to their hometowns and evacuate the campus a few months ago.
We offered admission to quite a few students from Afghanistan in the masters program this year under scholarships from ICCR. Because of online instructions, they were participating in the class from home,” stated Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director of IIT Bombay, in a Facebook post.

“However, due to rapidly deteriorating condition in their homeland, they wanted to come out of their country and join the hostels in the campus,” the director added.
Subhasis said, “Although we have approved their request to come to the campus as a special case, we are not sure how late it is for them to pursue their dreams. We hope that they are all safe and can join us soon.”
