Supreme Court Allows Women To Appear For UPSC NDA Exam Scheduled On November 14

The Supreme Court has passed an interim order allowing more women to join India’s defence services. The apex court has slammed the Indian Army’s policy for not considering women to appear for the UPSC National Defence Academy & Naval Academy (NDA & NA) exam. The bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy expressed dissatisfaction over gender discrimination. The top court has directed the concerned authority to make necessary arrangements that allow women to sit for the UPSC NDA (II) exam 2021 scheduled on November 14.

Earlier, advocate Kush Kalra had filed a petition seeking female candidates to appear for the UPSC NDA exam and serve the country. The lawyer expressed that not allowing women candidates for training at the Academy is not constitutionally justifiable. He also referred to the last year Supreme Court’s decision of granting permanent commission and command postings to women officers in the Army.

The UPSC has completed the online application process for NDA (II) 2021 exam. The written exam will be held on November 14. Going by the Supreme Court order, the Commission is likely to reopen the NDA 2 2021 application window again for the women candidates to register.
