Karnataka PU Colleges To Commence Online, Offline Classes With 50% Capacity From Aug 23
After the Karnataka government authorised offline classes starting next Monday (August 23), pre-university colleges (for classes equivalent to 11 and 12) in the state have been asked to hold online and offline classes with 50 percent student capacity.
Pre-University (PU) colleges have been urged to divide students into distinct batches for offline and online classes, according to a Standard operating Procedure (SoP) issued by the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE). A DPUE official informed The Indian Express that this rule will be imposed particularly to PU colleges with student strength above 100.”
According to the SoP, the students in the offline batches have classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, while those in the online sessions have classes on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

However, institutions with less than 100 students and enough infrastructure will be permitted to operate fully offline after verifying compliance with all Covid rules.
Meanwhile, the official emphasised, “While the government has allowed us to resume offline classes in districts where the Covid-19 positive rate is less than 2%, only online classes will be held in the remaining districts.”
Below are some of the key highlights in the SoP:
- The number of students who will be able to attend offline classes will be determined by the size of the classrooms.
- To attend offline classes, a consent letter from parents or guardians is required.
- Students who have Covid symptoms will not be allowed on campus.
- Mandatory Vaccination is required for all teaching and non-teaching staff, including principals and lecturers.
