What’s new for the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?
This year, Mitsubishi drops front-wheel drive from the Outlander Sport. A Ralliart version will join the lineup sometime in 2023, but we don’t know when.
The Outlander Sport wears the same tried-and-true lines that date back to 2010 in certain markets, though it’s had a few light facelifts over the years. It’s pleasant enough outside, but the cabin brims with cheap touches.
A 148-hp inline-4 powers most Outlander Sports, while a larger 168-hp inline-4 is optional. All use a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) to send power to all four wheels. Neither is quick, and the lugging CVT shoulders a good bit of that blame. Ride quality on base models is all right, aided by quick steering. Bigger wheels mean a choppy ride, though.
Fuel economy is no great shakes, either. The EPA estimates between 25 and 26 mpg combined.
Inside, the Outlander Sport lacks standard smartphone mirroring (it’s optional, though). It’s also not a great value, especially with a broad lineup of models that don’t offer too many reasons to go above the base configuration. On the bright side, Mitsubishi includes an unusually good warranty.
Mixed crash-test ratings are canceled out by standard automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warnings when it comes to safety.
How much does the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport cost?
Prices have yet to be announced, but it’s safe to bet that the lineup will start north of $23,000.
Our advice is to spend as little as possible, though the LE for around $2,500 more is the cheapest way into useful Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
