2023 Porsche Macan Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos
What kind of vehicle is the 2023 Porsche Macan? What does it compare to?
The 2023 Porsche Macan is a small, sport-oriented crossover SUV with an upscale cabin and plentiful turbocharged power. Shop it against the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
Is the 2023 Porsche Macan a good SUV?
The 2023 Porsche Macan is a fantastic choice, so long as you can appreciate how it prioritizes sporty handling and quick acceleration above utility. It’s not particularly spacious and it lacks automatic emergency braking, though its cabin is gorgeous. It’s a 6.4 out of 10 on the TCC scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What’s new for the 2023 Porsche Macan?
After a revamp last year, the Macan adds a new T trim level for 2023. The Macan T builds on the base 4-cylinder with the Sport Chrono package and adaptive dampers. It’s worth a look if blistering acceleration isn’t on your must-have list. Not like any Macan is a slouch.

And not like any Macan is ugly, either, though this basic design has been around for the better part of a decade now. It’s more like a scaled-down Cayenne than a puffed-up 911, though there are plenty of familiar cues throughout. Inside, the classy materials are marred somewhat by annoying haptic controls.
All those qualms are easy to forget when you drive one. The Macan offers decent enough power in 4-cylinder form, but the twin-turbo V-6s in the S and GTS really unlock its full potential. No matter the engine, the slick 7-speed dual-clutch and permanent all-wheel drive both work in the Macan’s favor. Sharp, hefty steering and divine ride quality make it as pleasant in daily slogging as it is carving corners.
The optional air suspension lowers the Macan at speed to aid stability—and maybe enhance fuel economy, though at between 19 and 21 mpg combined, these small Porsches have a big thirst.
They’re comfy inside, too, so long as you’re seated up front. The Macan has a tight second row and its cargo space is smaller than most rivals. The 10.9-inch touchscreen boasts a gorgeous display, good native software, and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
It also lacks automatic emergency braking in any form, which seems like an odd oversight given its premium price tag. Blind-spot monitors, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control don’t quite make up for the fact that the Macan is one of the few new vehicles that can’t stop itself automatically.
How much does the 2023 Porsche Macan cost?
Porsche wants just south of $59,000 for a base Macan, but odds are you’ll be presented with a far higher bill. That’s because the Macan follows modern Porsche tradition with a massive lineup of tempting—and expensive—options.
We think the $11,000-or-so premium for the Macan S is worth the money since its 6-cylinder engine delivers thrilling acceleration to match this balanced chassis.
Where is the 2023 Porsche Macan made?
In Germany.
