2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos
What kind of vehicle is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS? What does it compare to?
The EQS is the largest electric sedan in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. (The automaker also has a new SUV called, creatively, the EQS SUV.) The EQS sedan compares with the BMW i7, the Tesla Model S, and the Genesis Electrified G80.
Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS a good car?
It’s a solid effort, with a futuristic cabin, 350 miles of range, and a luxurious feel. Some design quirks due to its remarkably sleek body hold it back when it comes to practicality, but the EQS nonetheless rates 7.8 out of 10 on the TCC scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

The EQS is as slippery as it looks, boasting an ultra-low 0.20 coefficient of drag aided by high-tech wheels. While not as elegant as Benz’s own gas-fueled S-Class, the EQS nonetheless strikes a pose with more flair than its direct rivals.
Step inside and you’ll likely be surrounded by huge screens. The standard 12.8-inch touchscreen is good enough, but the optional Hyperscreen turns the dash into a configurable digital display that will learn a user’s commonly-selected features over time so as not to overwhelm.
The base EQS 450+ sends 329 hp rearward. This year’s new EQS 450 4Matic adds a second electric motor for all-wheel drive, upping the ante to 355 hp. The range-topping EQS 580 hustles 516 hp to all four wheels. They’re all quick, even if they lack the ludicrosity of Tesla’s top offerings. The 649-hp AMG EQS comes closer to leveling the playing field with Tesla, though.
EPA range estimates come in between 340 and 350 miles. Charging times are quick, and the EQS can top off at a 200-kw charger should you stumble across one. Even on a 110-kw charger, Mercedes quotes a zippy 30-minute top-off from 10-80%.
The EQS wants for little in terms of safety tech. Adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitors, and active lane control come standard.
How much does the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS cost?
The cheapest EQS rings in at about $106,000, though the new all-wheel-drive version costs just $3,000 more. It appears to be this year’s value play since the EQS 580 4Matic runs a hefty $127,000 or so. The AMG EQS is $148,550.
Standard equipment includes leather trim, heated and cooled front seats, Burmester audio, a huge sunroof, and 20-inch wheels.
Where is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS made?
In Germany.
